Hold Me Accountable: Will Corzine ever name a GOP ELEC member?
By Wally EdgeToday is Election Day in several hundred municipalities across the state that elect school board members – an appropriate time to remind Gov. Jon Corzine that a vacancy still exists on the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission. Three months ago, Corzine’s staff indicated that the appointment of a Republican ELEC member would come “within weeks or even days.” The seat has been vacant since Corzine named Judge Theodore Davis to serve as the Chief Operating Officer of Camden in December 2006.
Last year, Corzine named Republican Gabriella Morris, but the apppointment was dropped within a few days after the Governor realized that he couldn't name a governnment affairs executive (Morris is with Prudential) to a panel that regulates lobbyists.
State law requires the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission to be equally divided among both political parties, but in the months preceding the 2007 general election, Democrats have a majority. Albert Burstein and Jerry Fitzgerald English, two former Democratic legislators, serve on ELEC, along with Peter Tobler, a former Assistant Counsel to Governors Christine Todd Whitman and Donald DiFrancesco.

Seriously....it shouldn't take Corzine that long. His appointment process is a joke. He's way behind on judicial nominations too, I believe.
Meetings shouldn't be held
This nonsense would stop if the one present Republican member of ELEC refused to attend any ELEC meetings - except for normal administration functions - so that there would not be a quorum for any ELEC substantive actions/decisions until the other Republican were appointed.
