Some political insiders say that U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie, a likely candidate for the 2009 Republican gubernatorial nomination, might have crossed the line last weekend when he criticized Morristown Mayor Donald Cresitello, a candidate for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination, in a speech before a non-political group last weekend. "I don't think it's helpful when a mayor of a town in New Jersey stands up at a rally and calls people he believes to be undocumented 'pinkos' and communists,” the Daily Record reported him as saying.
Cresitello says Christie should resign: "I'm a candidate for federal office. He should not be involving himself in that process," Cresitello told the Daily Record.

Agreed
Christie's statements are inappropriate. No need to make the DOJ look any more partisan than it already appears. Christie is good at what he does, but when it comes to politics he doesn't seem to have learned any lessons from his disasterous forays into the political arena.
Odd...I am happy that our
Odd...I am happy that our U.S. attorney realizes that it's a bad idea to call people "pinkos" and "communists."
This looks more like another example of the Dems trying to take Christies legs out anyway they can
"Hey, Chris Christie just voiced his opinon, let's put out a press release..."
Wrong, beowulf.
Chris Christie is certainly entitled to voice his opinion-- he did not sign that right away when he took the job. What he did agree not to do is participate in the political process. He is not permitted to make contributions, and presumably, the intention is to ensure that his office is not used for political purposes.
Political attacks from his bully pulpit certainly violates the policy of depoliticizing the office. It would be unthinkable to any past or present U.S. Attorney who spends even a nanosecond considering the ethical propriety of it.
nothing wrong w/ that statement
I'm no Christie fan, but his statement was hardly "bashing" and Cresitello is hardly a candidate.
He said calling people pinkos wasn't helpful, and he's right. I think that's a fair comment, and hardly political. He's calling for a more positive discourse, nothing wrong there.
Christie should resign over this? Good luck w/ that argument Mr. Mayor.
Resign ?
Why should Christie resign?
He is the only government employee in this state that actually works for his paycheck.
Ashcroft should run.
The most difficult career move is completing a job and preparing for the next job without making it appear that your are already working in the 2nd job. What is a "Drewniak"? What does he do? Who pays him? Please read the quote from the Daily Record. OMG.
Donald Cresitello is a fool, liar and a racist
having said that, Christie may have given the apperance of partisanship. Best to stay above the fray until he officially announces.
