Four candidates will face off in a June 10 runoff election for two seats on the Sparta Township Council after a write-in candidate prevented a candidate from winning 50% of the vote. The top vote getter missed the park by 99 votes. Newcomer Christopher Curry (1,123) and incumbent Scott Seelagy (1,082) will again face challenger Carey Ann Shaftan (873) and incumbent Jerry Murphy (845). Brian Rush received 754 write-in votes and has not yet endorsed a candidate in the runoff.
Curry and Shaftan were running mates.

out for her self
I would like to know who this women Carey Ann Shaftan thinks she is, i think that she is an ignorant pig. Has she never wanted for anything in her life, must be nice to live such a privileged life. I live in Sparta and have for 15 years raising my children, during the last few years my life has changed, and so has my financial situation, so i will soon have to sell my home, I would love to see affordable housing come to Sparta so that i can stay in a town that my children have grown up in, and i love. I don't want to leave but based on what she said i need to leave because i can no longer afford to live in Sparta..I guess Ms. Shaftan, thinks that Sparta is a bubble town and should be kept as such, being she thinks everyone who including herself who lives here is perfect and wonderful and free of sin i guess she doesnt read the Sparta independent police blotter, and so she can see that her neighbor or her friend was arrested to DUI or her children's friend was charged with drug possession, or maybe her friend down the block house is in foreclosure..Just because we already live in Sparta doesn't mean we all can afford to live here or be without sin......I pray that she never has any kind of financial hardship in her life, I hope that she does not win any election ever. She doesn't know people, and she has no HEART.
