Joseph Vas, who won just 39% of the vote last month in his bid for re-election to a sixth term as Mayor of Perth Amboy, was elected Democratic Municipal Chairman last night. Vas, a two-term Assemblyman, defeated Jim Nanton, 35-6. Ray Geneske, the longtime Democratic Chairman and a staunch Vas ally, did not seek re-election.
Vas' victory will make him more competitive as he seeks re-election to the Assembly in 2009. There has been considerable talk that Diaz and other Middlesex County Democrats might work together to oust Vas. South Amboy Mayor Jack O'Leary and Carteret Mayor Dan Reiman are on the list of potential candidates to challenge Vas for the Democratic nomination.
Wilda Diaz takes office as the new Mayor on July 1.

Vas was Lautenberg's only ally in Southern Middlesex
If the 24 year Senator is re-elected, which is highly likely, Vas can find himself among some strong allies when everyone else in the district backed Andrews.
Naaaah
Vas's political career is going down the drain. His puppets in the committee just gave him a spot up top so he can try to save what ever is less.
Lautenberg or not, I can see Vas losing his Assembly seat.
where's the Mayor?
why didn't Wilda Diaz run a candidate?
That wasn't very smart.
where's the mayor
Mrs Diaz did have candidates the problem was that vas's puppets like Geneske mandated to be an open election not a silent election, they always had a silent election, this is the first time they had it like that to monitor who was on Diaz's side, they were so scared they threw out mayor elected Diaz and council president Peter Jimenez out of the election room, again this is the first time they wanted go by the book just like the pay to play rule, in the past the communist Vas allowed even kids in the election room, you figure it out.
