One candidate worth watching is Jim McSorely, a retired State Police captain who is waging an impressive, low-budget campaign for Mercer County Sheriff. As a Republican, McSorley faces an uphill battle against incumbent Kevin Larkin in heavily Democratic Mercer County; the GOP has not won countywide since 1999. But Larkin is a potentially flawed incumbent, and McSorley does not lack testicular fortitude. A former aide to U.S. Rep. Christopher Smith, McSorley has inherited Smith's political organization in Mercer and seems to share Smith's skills of hard work and grass roots campaigning. Back in 1980, Smith ousted a personally flawed thirteen-term Congressman with little money or organization.
Earlier this week, McSorley criticized Larkin for taking time off on Tuesdays and Fridays to earn extra cash working a private security gig at Kingsbury Towers in Trenton -- and for working Saturday nights during the summer checking ID's at a bar in Point Poleasant. With increased gang activity in Trenton, Larkin's penchant for side security jobs isn't a bad issue in a county where they might be an expection of the kind of 24/7 service that made predecessors Samuel Plumeri and Gilbert Lugossey popular.

Keep hitting him Jim!!
The people didn't elect a beach bar bouncer and a security guard, they elected the man to be sheriff!
McSorley is the kind of sheriff and elected official Mercer County needs. He's not beholden to a party machine, but to the people.
He is committed to cleaning up the growing gang problem that is spreading from Trenton into Hamilton, Ewing, Lawrence, Princeton, and the rest of Mercer!!
McSorley is a good guy
He would be a good sherriff. He is a straight shooter. His wife hosts an Irish radio show.
Mr. McSorely should remember the adage about glass houses...

McSorley's house
looks to be in order to me. They were state sanctioned duties, unlike our current sheriff and his side duties. Unless of course Brian Hughes would like to go on the record ordering Larkin to be a bouncer at Martels.
McSorley
Maybe he doesn't need a second job and he can devote his to his first job.
McSorley is the right choice for Mercer County
The citizens of Mercer County need a strong and tough sheriff to protect them. Its important that the sheriffs office (and the sheriff in particular) devote themselves fully toward working for the people. Larkin has spent too many nights in Ocean County; its time for him to go!
Larkin's transportation to outside jobs -
I believe there is also some question that Larkin didn't use his own car to get to the outside jobs - how much of my tax bill paid for his gas?
