Hollis Towns, the Executive Editor at the Cincinnati Enquirer for the last four years, has been named Executive Editor and Vice President for News at the Asbury Park Press. Towns will replace Skip Hidlay, who has moved to run two other Gannett papers, the News Tribune and the Courier-News. Towns has been a reporter for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Managing Editor at the Kalamazoo Gazette. He starts later this month.

The only question is
Will Towns do anything to make so the APP isn't a thinly-veiled mouthpiece for the state Republican Party? There haven't been too many endorsed Dems by the APP in recent years, and the editorial board even saw fit to suggest, in the 2007 state legislature elections, that voters elect as many Republicans as possible.
Martin, The APP hasn't
Martin,
The APP hasn't endorsed a county Republican candidate for at least two years in a row.
Their legislative agenda was fighting against the majority that was leading New Jersey in the wrong direction. They did endorse one Democrat, for the record.
The paper has taken on the County Republicans plenty of times. I would say that's a good balance going on.
