WATSON COLEMAN TO BUSH: 'AN UNCONSCIONABLE VETO'
Majority Leader Applauds Governor's Pursuit of Legal Action to Protect Children's Health
(TRENTON) - Assembly Majority Leader Bonnie Watson Coleman today issued the following statement in reaction to President Bush's veto of legislation to strengthen the federal government's role in the State Children's Health Insurance Program, or SCHIP.
"New Jersey residents now have yet another reason to have deep misgivings about their President.
"This is an unconscionable veto. Instead of exhibiting compassionate leadership by working to protect children's lives here in New Jersey and across the nation, the President chooses to recklessly spend unfathomable sums on military actions that are costing American lives overseas.
"I hope legislators on both sides of the political aisle will band together in voicing their objections to this Bush veto and supporting Governor Corzine's legal challenge to the Bush administration's attempts to exclude thousands of children from the state's FamilyCare health insurance program."
