(TRENTON) - Assembly Majority Leader Bonnie Watson Coleman today welcomed Governor Corzine's multi-faceted plan to reduce state spending and achieve transformational fiscal change to improve the state's long-term financial health.
Watson Coleman issued the following statement:
"The Governor delivered a rational and valid message that will guide New Jersey's efforts in the right direction by reining in spending and ensuring fiscal accountability.
"The Governor's proposals should be examined and debated, but they must not be dismissed out of hand.
"The four points - freezing spending, preventing future budgets from exceeding recurring revenues, capturing the value of the state's toll roads and prohibiting future debt without a dedicated revenue source unless approved by New Jersey voters - are strategies that can be crafted and employed to keep New Jersey moving forward.
"It's clear the Governor put a lot of time and effort into this plan. "It cannot be rubber-stamped, but it certainly is worthy of careful bipartisan consideration."
