Waxing the poetic in the fifth

Compassionate Rotarian-American Paul Stuart Aronsohn doesn't know how Scott Garrett sleeps at night.  The fifth district Democrat, mulling a rematch of his '06 campaign against Garrett, says the Republican Congressman is "immoral" for voting against Hurricane Katrina victims.

“How, in good conscience, could Garrett vote against the victims of Hurricane Katrina for a second time?, Aronsohn asked. “Frankly, I don’t know how he sleeps at night.

Aronsohn says Garrett's vote is either arrogant or extremist.
“Call it arrogance. Call it extremism. But whatever you call it, one thing is clear: By voting this way, Garrett thumbed his nose at the Katrina victims and at the compassionate people who live in our community.

The congressman voted the

The congressman voted the original expenditure in 2005 because he said the expenditure was being passed without proper controls to give proper oversight and much of the funds would never make it to the victims. A couple of years later we know that is exactly what happened. Louisiana is a jurisdiction that has even more corruption than New Jersey currently does. But Mr. Aronsohn gives the stock Democratic response to every problem: throw money at it so we can all feel good - even if the money does not have the intended effect.

As for sleeping at night, one wonders how Mr. Aronsohn can do so after supporting and working for someone like James McGreevey.

Sleep soundly Congressman.

Compassion, demonstrated by spending taxpayers money, is a common trap liberals fall into. Garrett recognizes that taxpayers are comprised of the poor and seniors on fixed income who prefer to decide how they will spend their money. Perhaps Aronsohn should get his checkbook out and donate to the City of New Orleans so they can properly distribute his funds for relief, then he can sleep well knowing he didn't take money from some seniors who are trying to figure out how to cover their tax bill in N.J.

What happened to being Americans?

There's no doubt that in voting against 1 out of the 3 original aid packages, Garrett cited abuses. It's not clear which pot of money the abuse came from, but we know there were abuses and failings. The abuses and failings from Katrina are a fraction of those in Iraq. It doesn't make the failings right in either case.  However, if you really want to believe Garrett looks after your tax dollars, ask why he supports through his silence the continued taxpayer funded hiring of US contractors and paying them 10 times what we could be paying an Iraqi to do jobs like carpentry and plumbing?

We're pouring taxpayer dollars into the quicksand of Iraq while a great American region still lays in ruins. We have next to no chance of seeing a return on the investment in Iraq, yet rebuilding New Orleans can and will help our economy. I realize with the 24 hour news cycle and the recent pictures of Mardis Gras that it's easy to forget we're talking about an area of America being so devastated they can't rebuild on their own. Better controls, yes, but you're advocating abandonment?

When are some of you going to wake up!

Scott Garrett is as extreme as they come, all of you that support his no vote on this issue makes me wonder. How would you feel if you were a taxpayer (the way some of these comments are posted makes it sound like the people in the devestated area don't pay taxes), forced to become homeless due to a natural disaster, left to fend for yourself in terrible conditions with a breakdown by all levels of government that cost friends, neighbors, and family their homes and in some cases, their lives. To have some extreme congressman and some of his supporters tell you, you are not entitled to assistance because there is no oversight is ridiculous! It is not a laughing matter, but a disgrace, the government let these people down on so many levels, some still left homeless and Garrett hangs his hat on the fact that there is no oversight, Congress should be the oversight, along with government agencies. Although I agree some of the money may be wasted, the majority of it benefits the people who need it. If we took a page out of Garret's book we would have no assistance whatsoever for the people who need it most. No one should be supporting his no vote, not when so many need the assistance, Garrett can rest on his laurels, while some people are homeless and hungry. Aronsohn is not the only one who wonders how Garret can sleep at night, many of us wonder, and we are not all "liberals". Give me a break, until you walk in the shoes of the people who have dealt with this disaster, don't debate the assistance they need,  give them anything that can help. By the way, I did write a check to them, did you.

Just what is extreem about the TRUTH ???

Just what is extreem about pointing out theTruth.
1) Ray " School Bus" Nagen has squandered      billions of taxpayer $$$ and donations
2) Hard working American Taxpayers have      been financing N.O. Culture of Corruption     for years with NO end in sight.
3) The victims of other areas are rebuilding     the old fashioned American way without     the complaining.
This  so called "Rotarian-American" is a  loser  whos so called progressive values cannot befound anywhere in any of the FRAMERS documents

Aid can come from private donations.

I did send a check, as CaringaboutNJ and so many others did.  Americans are generous, and do offer help to others in need.  They choose to do so, and most likely could and would donate more if taxes were lower.  Imagine that a person could decide where the money went.  The donor could actually get the satisfaction of having contributed.  Under the tax and spend liberal model, the police power of the state is utilized to make a politcal figure look like Santa, and as for the taxpayer, pay or else.

You have to be kidding....

You don't actually believe that the pennies people save each day due to the Bush tax cuts, which by the way, the only people who really benefit are the people who need the tax cuts the least (such as me), would really take the extra savings and give it away. If you have it now you would send it, such as you and I have... But the people who need our help don't benefit from the tax cuts and need the governments help. There is nothing wrong with the government assisting our citizens. As for corruption, as another writer indicated, look no further than the former Republican Congress and the current White House. This is what annoys me about Garrett, he is an extreme puppet, who only stands up and supports issues that will hurt the poorest of the nation and the middle class, this man has no moral compass, it is not always about the taxes, keep your tax cuts (we will survive) and put the money in the places that it is needed. The man is the biggest hypocrite in Congress, he votes against the environment, but supports the polluters, he votes against legislation that would assist the middle class and combat poverty and hides behind the word WASTE. Wake up, the man does not think aboout how is vote affects middle America. Heck, even as an Assemblyman in NJ, he voted against Megan's Law that would protect children against sexual predators. I know his reason was that he wanted tougher laws, if that is his argument than he is not to bright, let us have no laws in place instead. I don't understand how some people can't see the forest through the trees, the biggest hypocrisy is Haliburton, moving the operation overseas to avoid paying what; TAXES. You just can't make this stuff up, but Garrett certainly stands up for the taxpayers, what a joke.

Biggest hypocracy Haliburton ??

Yea sure just ask your big anti American buddy " Georgie Boy Soros" about all the Haliburton  shares he just acquired.??
