Weinberg-Johnson-Huttle Officially Qualify as "Clean Elections" Candidates
(TEANECK)--"We've been fighters for clean, open and effective government all our careers and we've got the scars to show for it, now we've earned official recognition as Clean Elections candidates," Senator Loretta Weinberg announced as she and her running mates, Assemblyman Gordon M. Johnson and Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle, qualified as Clean Elections candidates in the 37th Legislative District.
Weinberg, Johnson and Huttle are strong advocates for campaign reform and helped pass this new law in both houses of the New Jersey legislature. The three candidates all qualified by raising more than 400 campaign contributions of $10 from their neighbors across the 37th District.
"We qualified as Clean Elections candidates the old-fashioned way- by talking to individual voters, making our case and earning their support," Assemblyman Johnson noted. Many of the team's 400 supporters are new to the political process and represent a clean break with the old politics.
"One of the great strengths of the Clean Elections program is that it puts power back in the hands of voters and eliminates the influence of special interests," Assemblywoman Huttle pointed out.
The three legislators said that they would continue their grass and net roots campaign through November. The law allows them to raise a total of 800 contributions of $10 each in order to qualify for the maximum public funding. Weinberg, Johnson and Huttle said they were committed to running a campaign that lives up to the full spirit of the law and pledged to run a positive, issues based campaign.
