ROBIN WEINSTEIN'S STATEMENT ON HIS POSSIBLE CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDACY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 2, 2006
CONTACT: Robin Weinstein (609) 504-4275(WOODSTOWN, NJ)--Robin Benjamin Weinstein made the following statement today regarding his possible candidacy for the United States Congress representing New Jersey’s Second Congressional District:

“In the summer of 2005 I formed an exploratory committee to examine the feasibility of my potential candidacy for the United States Congress representing New Jersey’s Second Congressional District. Since that time my committee has established a website and met with various federal, state, local, and community leaders to discuss the issues that are important to the Second Congressional District and the viability of my candidacy. Additionally, we have been working on fundraising plans in order to mount an effective campaign against the incumbent. However, at the advice of my exploratory committee I have decided not to run for the Congressional seat in 2006.

“My intention from the start of this exploratory phase was to mount an effective opposition against Congressman LoBiondo. Time and time again, Mr. LoBiondo has let down our district by not standing up to the President on important issues such as assistance for senior citizens, farm subsidies, and financial aid for students seeking a college education. Additionally, he is breaking his promise by seeking a seventh term. While I would welcome the chance to mount a case against Mr. LoBiondo, I do not feel that the time is right for me to effectively do so.

“I believe in public and community service and have established it as a cornerstone in my life. Accordingly, while I will not be running for the Congressional seat at this time, I am filing to run for Borough Council in Woodstown. Additionally, I will continue to serve Salem County as their Public Information Officer & Human Resources Manager, along with my pastoral commitments as Interim Pastor of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Bridgeton.

“While I will not be running for Congress in 2006, my exploratory committee will still remain active as we prepare to challenge Mr. LoBiondo in 2008. I will spend these coming years working with the citizens of this district in building a strong political and financial base, so that I will have a credible chance at unseating Mr. LoBiondo. I have enjoyed meeting the people of this district and look forward to working with them as we prepare an agenda of hope and solutions for 2008.
