Vince Polistina and John Amodeo, Republican candidates for Assembly from Atlantic County, today call upon just-appointed Democrat Assembly candidate A. Joseph Wilkins, to “reveal immediately his position on the proposed sale or lease of New Jersey’s toll roads.”
“Wilkins is a high-ranking member of the Corzine Administration and the voters of the Second District have every right to know whether he supports the Administration which pays his salary or not,” Polistina and Amodeo said.
The Republican legislative candidates have been outspoken opponents of any plan to sell, lease or otherwise extract billions of dollars from the Turnpike, Parkway and Expressway.
“The idea is disastrous public policy,” the two Republicans said. “What’s even more troubling, the Corzine Administration has consistently refused to discuss any details of the plan until after November.”
“Is it any wonder that people feel that tolls will rise, potholes will go unfilled, and snow will be allowed to melt in days rather than plowed in minutes under any highway sale or lease scheme?” they asked.
“Wilkins has an obligation to tell the people of the Second District where he stands on this issue,” Polistina and Amodeo said. “Does he support the Governor and, if so, what is his rationale for doing so? What assurances can he offer that commuters and others who use the highways will not be hit with major toll increases, have their safety jeopardized, and suffer because of declining services?”
“We are solidly and unequivocally opposed to the Governor’s plans and Wilkins should reveal his position just as clearly as well,” they said.
