WISNIEWSKI: FISCAL PLAN OUTLINE A START,
BUT QUESTIONS ON TOLL ROADS REMAIN

(TRENTON) - Assemblyman John Wisniewski, chairman of the Assembly Transportation and Public Works Committee, made the following statement following the Governor's State-of-the-State address and his "fiscal restructuring" plan:

"Governor Corzine should be congratulated on a speech that relayed to all residents the state's dire fiscal condition and laid bare the need for financial discipline.

"A spending freeze, cap on future spending, and required voter approval for future borrowing are reforms that we should begin to work on enacting now.

"My fear is not that Governor Corzine lacks the ability to enhance the state's fiscal integrity, my fear is that future Legislatures and governors may not share his same sense of accountability.

"The Governor's plans for our toll roads require a closer examination.  While the overall goal of funding transportation infrastructure should be applauded, the amount of potential debt taken on by the proposed PBC gives me pause.

"Governor Corzine has committed to discussing this proposal at length with the people of New Jersey.  Count this legislator as one resident who still needs to hear more about this plan before making a decision about whether or not to support it."
