Sink The Democrat Boat Tax
Senators Anthony R. Bucco (R-25), Steven V. Oroho (R-24) denounced Democrat-sponsored legislation to impose boating, mooring and dock taxes on Lake Hopatcong.
"The tidal wave of Democrat taxes imposed during the last six years has impacted every sector of the economy," Bucco said. "It seems that torpedoing recreational boating on Lake Hopatcong has become the newest priority in the Democrats' plans to sink economic growth in this State.
"Despite winning a New Jersey Environmental Excellence Award from the DEP in 2005 for their significant contribution to environmental protection, the Lake Hopatcong Commission has faced constant threats of funding cuts from an administration that prefers to waste taxpayer monies on political patronage," Bucco stated.
"The urban legislators who proposed this bill should understand that recreational boaters provide a boat load of money to Trenton in the form of $200 million of cash flow from the boaters' economic activity," Oroho continued. "Causing just a one percent reduction in the Lake Hopatcong economy will cost Trenton at least $2 million per year in revenue - nearly three times more than the cost of the Commission. This will have a negative effect on our state's finances."
