ZIMMER CRITICIZES LAUTENBERG FOR SUPPORTING PORK-FILLED FARM BILL
--While Senior Senator Flip-Flops On Farm Bill, New Jersey's Farmers Get Left Fighting For Scraps; New Jersey's Taxpayers Get Left Holding The Bag --
Flemington, NJ – Republican U.S. Senate candidate Dick Zimmer issued the following statement following Frank Lautenberg's vote last night in favor of the $289 billion Farm Bill.
“Sen. Lautenberg's vote last night for the $289 billion farm bill hurts both New Jersey's farmers and taxpayers. New Jerseyans cannot afford to pay for this pork-filled bill that gives New Jersey's hardworking farmers a few small crumbs while special interest agribusiness and multimillionaire farmers get billions in subsidies and giveaways.
"Sen. Lautenberg has been curiously inconsistent on the Farm Bill. He was one of just three Senate Democrats to vote against a bad Farm Bill in December 2007. He then voted for an even worse Farm Bill in May of this year. And now his vote has helped make it law. Why the change of heart? Sen. Lautenberg’s Farm Bill flip-flop is Washington at its worst.
"New Jersey's farmers deserve better, and New Jersey's taxpayers deserve a Senator who doesn't have a finger in the wind when it comes to fiscal responsibility. In the U.S. Senate I will be a consistent advocate for fiscal responsibility and lead the fight to stop outrageous pork-filled bills that the people of New Jersey cannot afford.”
