LAUTENBERG'S SUPPORT FOR 100 PERCENT CARGO SCREENING HARDLY 100 PERCENT
-- Senator Opposed Homeland Security Amendment Which Passed U.S. Senate 95-3 --
Flemington, NJ -- Today, Sen. Frank Lautenberg announced legislation that he says will improve port security. Unfortunately, Frank Lautenberg talks tough on port security but the record suggests otherwise. Lautenberg was one of just three U.S. Senators to oppose an amendment that would require 100 percent screening of cargo before entering the United States.
"Sen. Lautenberg's vote failed to do what it takes to keep America safe," said Zimmer for Senate campaign manager Mark Duffy. "Dick Zimmer is committed to keeping our ports and borders secure by supporting all measures that will detect nuclear weapons before they enter our ports."
Attached is the supporting documentation on the port security amendment Lautenberg opposed.
"New Jerseyeans deserve an effective Senator who will vote 100 percent for port security. Frank Lautenberg needs to explain his vote to the voters," Duffy concluded.
